THE SAME SHINGLE CAN LAST 15 YEARS OR 30.

Two identical bundles installed on two identical houses will perform completely differently depending on who nailed them down. Nail placement, exposure, starter courses, ventilation, and the underlayment beneath all separate a shingle roof that ages gracefully from one that starts shedding tabs after a few hard winters.

Tri State All American Roofing and Restoration installs to the manufacturer's written specification rather than to whatever is fastest, because that specification is also what keeps your warranty valid. The extra care costs us time on the roof and saves you a decade of aggravation underneath it.

  • Manufacturer-specified nailing and exposure
  • Full starter, field, and ridge cap systems
  • Balanced intake and exhaust ventilation
  • Color consultation before anything is ordered

SHINGLE ROOF

GOOD SHINGLES ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE HANDS THAT SET THEM.

The nailing zone on a shingle is roughly an inch tall, and missing it high is invisible from the ground yet catastrophic in wind. Overdriving cuts the mat; underdriving leaves heads proud. Starter strips at the eaves and rakes are skipped constantly because nobody will ever see them. Every one of those details determines whether your roof reaches its rated life or surrenders tabs during the first serious spring storm.

CHOSEN FOR HOMES ACROSS THIS RIVER VALLEY.

Shaded north slopes here grow algae, exposed south slopes bake, and the wind that comes up the river hits rakes and ridges hardest. Tri State All American Roofing and Restoration recommends algae-resistant products where the tree cover justifies them and higher wind ratings on the exposures that need them, rather than putting the identical shingle on every plane of every house and calling the job specified.

SECURE SHINGLES START WITH PROPER INSTALLATION.

There is no mystery to a shingle roof that lasts. It is preparation, correct fasteners, correct exposure, and ventilation that lets the assembly breathe. Across 22 years, those fundamentals have not changed once, though the number of crews willing to rush past them certainly has. Which kind of crew do you want standing on your house for two days? The answer shows up 10 years later, long after the invoice is forgotten.

WHAT A WELL-BUILT SHINGLE ROOF GIVES YOU

STRONG VALUE FOR THE MONEY

You get proven performance without a premium price. Asphalt delivers decades of protection at a cost that leaves budget available for the gutters, siding, or windows that also need attention.

COLOR THAT SUITS THE HOUSE

The palette is genuinely broad. Weathered wood, slate grays, warm browns, and deep charcoals all read differently against brick, stone, and painted siding, and choosing well lifts the whole property.

REPAIRS THAT STAY SIMPLE

Future problems are inexpensive to solve. Individual courses can be lifted and replaced without disturbing the surrounding field, which is not true of most alternative roofing materials.

DEPENDABLE WIND PERFORMANCE

Modern architectural shingles carry serious wind ratings when installed correctly. Properly nailed and sealed, they hold through the gusts that regularly strip poorly fastened roofs nearby.

A QUIETER HOME BENEATH

Asphalt absorbs sound rather than amplifying it. Rain and hail register as background noise instead of the drumming some other roofing surfaces produce during a storm.

BROAD APPEAL AT RESALE

Buyers understand shingles. A newer asphalt roof reads as low risk on an inspection report, which keeps negotiations focused on other parts of the house.

WHAT WE INSTALL

OUR SHINGLE ROOF WORK

Shingles come in several families, and the right one depends on exposure, budget, and how long you plan to stay. These are the systems we install and service most often.

ARCHITECTURAL SHINGLES

Architectural Shingle Installation

Laminated dimensional shingles are our default recommendation for most homes. They carry heavier weight, better wind ratings, and a shadow line that gives flat rooflines depth from the street.

THREE TAB

Three-Tab Shingle Roofing

The traditional flat profile still makes sense on rentals, outbuildings, and budget-driven projects. We install it with the same starter courses and nailing discipline we give a premium roof.

IMPACT RATED

Impact-Resistant Shingles

Class 4 impact-rated products resist hail bruising far better than standard shingles and may earn an insurance discount. On exposed properties they frequently pay for themselves after a single storm season.

DESIGNER PROFILES

Designer and Luxury Shingles

Heavier shingles imitate slate and cedar shake convincingly at a fraction of the structural demand. They suit historic homes where a plain three-tab roof would undercut the architecture entirely.

TARGETED REPAIRS

Shingle Roof Repair

Wind-lifted tabs, hail bruises, and cracked courses get corrected without touching the rest of the roof. We match profile and color as closely as the available product line allows.

RIDGE DETAILS

Ridge Vent and Cap Installation

The ridge carries both ventilation and the most visible line on your roof. We cut, vent, and cap it properly so the attic breathes and the peak looks deliberate rather than improvised.

THE WORD ON OUR WORK

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY.

Shingle roofs are the bulk of what we install, so most of our reviews come from these projects. Homeowners write about the cleanup, the color advice, and the fact that nothing has moved on the roof since the day we left. Have a read through them before you decide.

faq

frequently asked
questions.

Shingle questions usually come down to product choice, expected lifespan, and what actually causes an asphalt roof to fail early. Here is what we get asked most.

  • What is the difference between architectural and three-tab shingles?

Architectural shingles are laminated from two layers, giving them more weight, a dimensional look, and higher wind ratings. Three-tab shingles are single layer, flatter, cheaper, and generally shorter lived.

  • How long should a shingle roof last around here?

Architectural shingles typically deliver 20 to 30 years of service in this climate. Ventilation quality, sun exposure, and installation standards move that figure far more than the shingle brand itself ever will.

  • What wind rating do I actually need?

Most quality architectural shingles are rated to 110 or 130 miles per hour when nailed to specification. That rating is meaningless if the nailing pattern or starter course is done incorrectly.

  • Are impact-resistant shingles worth the extra cost?

On hail-exposed properties they often are, especially since many insurers discount premiums for Class 4 products. Tri State All American Roofing and Restoration installs them regularly across Covington, KY.

  • Why does ventilation matter so much for shingles?

Trapped attic heat cooks asphalt from underneath and drives shingles past their rated life early. Balanced intake and exhaust is the single cheapest way to protect the investment above it.

  • Can shingles be installed on a low-slope roof?

Below a 2:12 pitch, no, and between 2:12 and 4:12 only with additional underlayment protection. Anything flatter genuinely needs a membrane system rather than shingles of any kind.

  • Do algae-resistant shingles actually work?

They do. Copper granules built into the surface suppress the black streaking that plagues shaded slopes, and Tri State All American Roofing and Restoration recommends them on tree-covered lots in Covington, KY.

  • What causes granules to collect in my gutters?

A small amount is normal shedding on a new roof. Heavy accumulation from an older roof means the mat is becoming exposed, which is a reliable signal that replacement is approaching.

HOW WE WORK

FROM COLOR CHOICE TO FINAL RIDGE CAP, HERE IS HOW.

STEP 01

WE MEASURE

Every plane, valley, and penetration gets measured so material quantities are right the first time. Accurate takeoffs prevent both shortages partway through the job and the padded waste factors that quietly inflate estimates.

STEP 02

WE SELECT

You see physical samples against your brick, siding, and trim rather than a printed brochure. Color choice is effectively permanent for 25 years, so it is worth an unhurried conversation on your own driveway.

STEP 03

WE PREPARE

Old roofing comes off, the deck is inspected board by board, and anything soft is replaced. The surface has to be clean, dry, and structurally sound before a single new component goes down over it.

STEP 04

WE UNDERLAY

Synthetic underlayment covers the whole deck, with self-adhering ice barrier at the eaves, valleys, and around every penetration. Drip edge and starter courses follow in the correct order, never the convenient one.

STEP 05

WE SHINGLE

Field shingles go on to the manufacturer's exposure and nailing pattern, with flashing woven in as we reach it. Nothing gets sealed over that should have been flashed properly, because sealant is not a substitute for metal.

STEP 06

WE FINISH

Ridge vent and cap complete the system, then the property is swept and magnet-rolled. We walk the roofline with you, point out what changed, and confirm you are satisfied before the trucks pull away.
